Every Friday I will be taking you through some of my favourite viral video's from past and present to give you an idea of the creativity and innovation used to enhance a brand. I will look at low and high budget videos as well as ones that have unexpectedly gone viral. Viral advertising and the use of video on the web is expected to increase dramatically over the next few years so hopefully these examples may give you some inspiration for your own brand!
Number 5
Red Devil Energy Drink featuring Vinny Jones
This is a very old advert and one i remember from when i was younger. This hasn't gone massively viral because of it's age but i believe if it had been made in the last few years it would have gained more popularity. It has stuck in my head for many years because i thought it was funny and suited both the brand and the Vinny Jones at that time.
Number 4
Terry Tate Office Linebacker - Reebok Superbowl Advert
With 6,426,376 views in 4 years and a most liked status on youtube this is a prime example of good viral advertising. I found this while i was at University and thought it was hilarious. The campaign was made for Reebok and was aimed at appealing and relating to their target audience of 18- to 34-year-old males. The objective for this advert was to create a buzz and drive people to the Reebok website which worked to great effect.
Number 3
Chris Kamara from Sky Sports misses Portsmouth sending off
With 1,360,294 views in one week this video has unintentionally become viral. Chris Kamara is a legend in football with his random outbursts and moments of madness and here is a brilliant example of it! The studio cuts to him to ask what is going on and he doesn't have a clue! Brilliant!
Number 2
Doritos Superbowl Advert
This is a great example of a simple but effective way to advertise both Doritos and the Superbowl. The ad was created as part of a competition and was the overall winner. Doritos have been running the competition for 4 years with the winner getting $1million. The adverts generated money through phone votes and, advertising and increased sales and were a major success. This particular advert has seen 5,034,323 views.
Number 1
Nolans Extra Strong Cheese
This is one of the best videos i have seen for a while, great CGI, great concept, absolutely brilliant. I don't need to explain it! it does what it says on the tin!
