Content Management Systems
What Is A Content Management System?
A content management system (CMS) allows the client to manage the content of a website without the need for a technical person or the web developer to become involved.
When the design of the website has been agreed the developers create a template or number of templates that are used when the client wants to publish some content. The client uses an administration panel to edit the content for their website and this typically involves using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor where they can type in text, headings, change fonts, colours and even insert images.
The ability to rapidly edit, delete and create content without the need of a developer means that costs are reduced because neither an in-house technical team nor a third party developer is needed to make amendments to the website. Also the client can publish content much more quickly, thus making updates in an instant.
Some typical scenarios for content management systems are publishing industry specific documentation like technical manuals, operator manuals, marketing brochures, sales guides and news articles.
